Acharya First Grade College for Women, Gowribidanur
National and Rural Education Association established in 1943, one of the earliest to start high school education. Realizing the importance of the rural women education, N & REA started Acharya First Grade College for Women in June 1982 in order to provide quality education for girls residing in Gauribidanur Taluk. The N & REA executive committee members took the bold step to empower women through education in the early 80's. Having started with just 20 students, the institution has carved a niche for itself among educational institutions in then Kolar District and has transcended all boundaries in various areas of human pursuits with a current strength of over 700 students.
Under the leadership of B N Ramaiah the founder, principal of AGFCW the college was admitted to grant in aid in the year 1989.The College was accredited with a B grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2006.
The farsighted vision of a committed management supported by a dynamic Director, dedicated Principals and a competent team of teaching and non-teaching fraternity has provided a learner-oriented environment.
In the course of it’s over 4 decades of history Acharya First Grade College for Women has worked successfully at its primary objective of women empowerment through education and it continues to be committed to the same.

As per the Bangalore University norms Under Graduate Students in B.A / B.Com programme are expected to study 3 core subjects over 6 semesters. Under graduate students in B.Com. (Regular) programme are expected to study 4 core subjects over 6 semesters. In addition for students of all programmes there are 2 compulsory subjects over 4 semesters - General English and II language.
Acharya First Grade College for Women offers a wide range of choices for II language- Kannada and Telugu, Hindi. Students of all programmes must study the subjects: fundamentals of computer science, Indian Constitution and Environmental Studies.

The Learning Resource Centre
The college Library learning Resource Centre has been established in the year 1982, The Library Resource Centre is located in the college campus and having separate independent building.
Our Library Subscribes to a wide range of national and international journal. It has open rack system, a specious reading room and reference section, it also offers audio and video facilities, and students are encouraged to make good use of the library. The Library staff assists the students to find material for their projects and research. International access is also provided. The library is open from 9 AM to 5 PM.

The Library collects project reports & back volumes of journals. Work is in progress on OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue computer based catalogue) that is possible to be searched by user getting at a remote terminal.
